Side Chair Class

Become an Elite Woodworker: Build a Chair!

In this class, students will use a small kit of hand tools (with some assists from power drills and the band saw) to build a simple side chair that would be at home at any kitchen or dining table. This class will provide an approachable introduction to the fundamentals of chairmaking, staked furniture, and hand work.

• Maximum Class Size: 6
• Minimum Class Size: 4 (If the minimum class size isn't met, the class will be canceled.)
• Expected Skills: This class requires a lot of hand work. Students should be able to stand for extended periods. Some familiarity with hand tools is great, but a good attitude and curiosity are the only prerequisites.

• • 6” or 12” adjustable square

  • Block plane
  • #5 or #4 jack plane
  • Compass or divider
  • Pencil

All other tools will be provided. The Guild has some tools to lend, so don’t let a lack of tools stop you from signing up.

Fees & Payment:

Class fees are based on your Guild membership level at the time you sign up for the class. Payment is required at the time of enrollment.

• "Woodworker Plus" / "Benefactor" Guild membership level price (20% discount): $420

Withdrawal Policy: Withdrawals made within seven (7) days of the start of the class will NOT receive a refund.

Important Requirements:

• Green Name Badge Is Required: Students must have a Green Name Badge to enroll in this class.
• Green Name Badge Requirements: You must complete the Guild’s online safety test and the Safety Orientation or Rough-to-Ready before the first course meeting. (The Membership Director provided access to the test in the welcome email you received upon joining.)
